Bridgeport Dispatch operators they're tired of sharing their work space with mice, roaches and bugs.Operators say they have filed hundreds of incident reports about the conditions at City Hall since 1997. One operator for the Bridgeport Police told News 12 Connecticut that she and her co-workers have actually had bugs crawling on them while working, but their complaints have fallen on deaf ears. Diane Vitale says through the years they've dealt with mice, roaches and all kinds of bugs while working. Vitale showed pictures of worn-out carpet with food and dirt stains. She says if she doesn't live like that, she shouldn't have to work in those conditions. The operators are asking for new flooring that doesn't include carpet, but Lt. James Viadero of the Bridgeport Police Department says carpeting is required because of the acoustics. City maintenance workers spent part of the day Friday installing new carpet. City leaders say operators should address their concerns to the city's labor relations department if there are still problems with their work environment. The operator's union is scheduled to meet with Connecticut's Labor Department on Tuesday.
