Bridgeport police say a man was assaulted with a machete at Seaside Park
over the weekend. It comes after police had increased patrols at the park following a wave of noise and violent incidents last month.
Around 8 p.m. Sunday, Bridgeport police were called to Seaside Park along Waldemere Avenue at the Diamond 10 Baseball Field for an assault with a machete.
The 26-year-old is still recovering at a hospital after receiving severe lacerations to the face. Police say they have a strong lead in the case.
Last month, Bridgeport police and Mayor Joe Ganim spoke about what the city would be implementing following unsanctioned events - one of which ended in a shooting.
Chief Rodderick Porter said there would be constant police presence on weekends leading up to Memorial Day, and following the holiday there would be consistent presence throughout the entire week.
"The cops are going to be out here. We're going to be taking enforcement action," said Porter.
Some people News 12 spoke with declined to show their face on-camera, but said they still feel safe at Seaside Park.
"I don't know I've never seen anything concerning so I'm not easily worried, walking around here," said Dillon Robertson.
