Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez says his department will be cracking down on illegal truck traffic through city neighborhoods.

The announcement comes one month after a car smashed into an 18-wheeler that was illegally parked under the Interstate 95 overpass on Newfield Avenue, killing 41-year-old Tarryl Brown.

City Councilman James Holloway has drafted a resolution that will put up "no thru truck" signs throughout the neighborhood. He says state law forbids trucks from entering residential areas unless they have a destination there or a delivery. Holloway met on Thursday with Chief Perez, says he will step up enforcement immediately.

"People think that you can park here, well no you can't," Perez says. "There are rules to the city where you can go and where you can't go, where you can park or you cannot park."
