Bridgeport police are warning residents to lock up their homes amid a rise in burglaries over the past month. Police Chief Joseph Gaudett says thieves will look for resourceful ways to enter homes, such as removing air conditioning and fan units to climb inside. He also says many of the 60 reported burglaries in August have been prompted by unlocked doors and windows. Gaudett says the heaviest concentration of crimes took place in the city's lower north end and Hollow neighborhoods. Police recommend homeowners write down the serial numbers of their electronics and take pictures of their jewelry in case of theft.
