The City of Bridgeport hosted a flag-raising ceremony on Thursday in honor of Transgender Day of Visibility.

This was the first time the city raised a transgender flag.

International Transgender Day of Visibility is celebrated every March 31.

"The reason why this is important to us from OurTransLife is because in certain places around our state, it’s more difficult to be visible, and we know that there are a lot of folks in Bridgeport who aren't able to be visible," said Bliss Kern, from OurTransLife organization.

The date is intended to celebrate and empower the transgender and nonbinary community by bringing visibility.

The flag is visible outside of the Bridgeport Government Center.
