The Bridgeport Rescue Mission and volunteers from local churches for the seventh summer in a row are preparing and delivering meals to children who might not otherwise have them.

The mission, along with the Norwalk Housing Authority and Norwalk Grassroots Tennis, will provide hundreds of breakfasts and lunches to children taking part in their summer programs located in low-income housing sites throughout Norwalk.

According to the Norwalk Housing Authority, about 12 percent of Norwalk's school-age youth live in housing overseen by its organization. Many qualify for free or reduced-price lunches at school.

The program provides over 870 lunches to the summer camp each week.

The Bridgeport Rescue Mission provides more than 550,000 free meals each year and solely relies on donations to operate its programs.
