Five residents are looking for a new place to live after a fire destroyed their three-story home at 93 Eaton St. in Bridgeport over the weekend.

The fire started in the backyard of the home and quickly spread to the house, according to owner Melissa Keough. The fire caused the rear portion of the house to collapse late Saturday night, shocking the sleeping residents.

?Our smoke alarms didn?t go off,? said Keough. ?There was no smoke in the house.?

Keough said that she and the four other tenants, including her mother, would not have made it out of the house in time if it wasn?t for her barking dogs. Parts of the building were reduced to rubble, and the second-floor tenants lost everything.

?I?m just trying to take things day by day,? tenant Hector Sanchez said.

The Red Cross of Mid Fairfield County helped Sanchez stay in a hotel for the night. Keough estimates that it will be approximately one year until anyone can move back into the home that she spent nine-and-a-half years renovating. However, she says she has reason to be thankful.

?Everyone is fine and we will be again soon,? Keough said.
