A Bridgeport restaurant owner is volunteering as a "finance coach" during National Financial Literacy Month. Paul Brown, owner of Grill 2 Restaurant & Lounge. volunteers to help would-be small business owners. He says making a business plan is essential -- but that's only the start. Brown also says would-be small business owners should have enough money in the bank to cover all of their expenses for the first six months. "When you get to the point where the rubber meets the road, that's when you have to stay resilient, stay adaptive, look at what's going on in your community, and try to always be prepared to move in a direction where everybody else is moving. So stay adaptive, stay competitive, and always stay in your business," he says. Brown adds that being a small business owner is a 24/7 job, and one out of five small businesses fail within the first year.
