A Bridgeport retirement facility unveiled its multi-million dollar makeover Saturday, nearly three years after a private investment group purchased the property.
The Watermark in Bridgeport is now considered ?resort-style? living rather than retirement home living. The $40 million renovation project included upgrading the apartments, building independent living cottages and plans to reopen a nursing wing that has been closed for the past six years.
The quality of the retirement facility declined after the managers stopped making payments on a state-backed loan. The state eventually took control of the property before it was purchased by a private owner.
The retirement community now features a fitness club and indoor pool, as well as nursing and urgent care services. Units start at $169,000 and go up to $750,000. There is also a monthly fee of at least $2,500 for services.
