Neighbors told News 12 that they are concerned after a senior citizen was fined thousands of dollars due to the appearance of her home.
Friends joined 72-year-old Nanette Dutton at her home on Nutmeg Drive Saturday after they were outraged by a letter she received from the city of Bridgeport last month.
The letter says Dutton is being fined $3,000 under the city's Blight Ordinance at $100 a day if she doesn't make the repairs to her home.
The paint on the house is peeling amongst other repairs that are needed.
Dutton, who lives on Social Security, says she and her husband always intended to get the house fixed up. She says her husband died before those fixes could be made.
Dutton and her friends say they're hoping Bridgeport officials will have mercy on a senior citizen who's doing her best under difficult circumstances but can't afford a $3,000 fine.
City officials tell News 12 Connecticut: "We are taking a careful look at this case to see if anything can be done to assist the resident."
