Classmates of a Bridgeport High School student mourned his loss Saturday after he was killed in a crash on Route 25 in Trumbull Friday afternoon.

Police say 18-year-old Peter Tsiknis' 1998 Lexus crossed four lanes of traffic before crashing into a tree and bursting into flames. Investigators say Tsiknis was trapped inside the vehicle and died of his injuries at the scene.

"I was hoping that he was not awake when it happened to him, and that he didn't suffer, because it's terrible," Mike Chavez, Tiscanis' friend from Bridgeport, says.

Family members say Tsiknis was just weeks away from graduation. Friends and family say Tsiknis was a good student and aspired to open his own carpentry business after finishing high school.

Police are unsure if Tsiknis lost control of his car or had difficulty steering the vehicle. Officers say the investigation is open and ask any witnesses to call 203-696-2500.
