Students at Central High School in Bridgeport came together Tuesday to mourn the loss of a 16-year-old boy who was killed in a Memorial Day crash on Route 8.
Lucas Ananias died after the car he was riding in slammed into a tree near exit 11. The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle and another passenger were also injured. Police have yet to release the cause of the fatal accident.
Ananias' friends and staff members at Central High School described the teen as a friendly and outgoing person who lived his life to the fullest.
"He was younger than me, but he always took care of me and watched out for me," says friend Natasha Valentine.
Grief counselors were available to students at the school Tuesday. Central High School also held a moment of silence to honor Ananias.
Ananias was living in the United States with a sibling. His friends say the teen's family is now trying to raise money to send his body back to his parents in Brazil.
