A Bridgeport woman acquitted yesterday in her boyfriend's murder is calling the decision a victory for all victims of domestic violence.
Cherelle Baldwin spent three years in prison for killing her boyfriend Jeffery Brown by pinning him against a wall with her car. However, Baldwin's lawyer successfully argued that she was the victim of ongoing abuse, up until her deadly encounter with Brown in 2013.
The 24-year-old single mother thanked her supporters and said she is now looking forward to being reunited with her son.
"I didn't get off. I did do time," Baldwin said. "People don't understand that... Those three years of my son's life, three years of my life, we will never get back."
Baldwin added that even though she was acting in self-defense, she is sorry Brown died, and if she could take back her actions, she would.
News 12 spoke with Brown's father today, who said he wants to put the pain of the past behind him, but may decide at a later point to comment on the acquittal.
