Bridgeport Youth Lacrosse hosted an inaugural esport tournament.

Gamers gathered at the North Branch Public Library Tuesday.

Three teams from Fairfield County battled each other on Rocket League.

Event organizers say the tournament promotes sportsmanship and teamwork among kids.

"Today is an awesome opportunity for youth here in the city of Bridgeport to be introduced to the game of esport, we approach it as any other sport like flag football, or lacrosse," said Don Wilson, president of Bridgeport Youth Lacrosse.

The president of the Bridgeport Youth Lacrosse says he is looking forward to growing the esport tournament and making it an annual summer event for kids.
