The family of an 18-year-old killed in an I-95 crash said her funeral Friday was the most painful experience they've ever had to endure.
Destiny Arriaga was killed in the Stratford crash last Thursday. As News 12 has reported, the 17-year-old driver of the Honda Accord she was a passenger in lost control and crashed into a guardrail. The driver and a second passenger suffered minor injuries.
"I'm not supposed to bury my first granddaughter, I'm not supposed to do that," said her grandfather, Willie Arriaga. "I feel like a piece of my heart just went."
Nadine Arriaga says losing her niece was something she will never fully recover from. She's calling on authorities to hold the driver accountable.
"This needs to be solved," she told News 12.
Family members say they're drawing strength from each other now. Her brokenhearted mom says she has no choice but to accept this "destiny" for her daughter.
"Everybody says it's not easy but I'll get through it one way or another," said Yanira Martinez.
