A Bronx-based organization that has been helping borough residents for nearly 30 years is getting a grant from the Department of Justice.
Bronx Independent Living Services, a nonprofit group, works to empower victims of domestic violence, as well as people with disabilities.
The $5,000 grant will go toward educating the community about domestic violence and helping victims of abuse.
"[The grant] raises awareness that centers like ours exist where victims of crime and domestic violence can come and get help and remain safe and hopefully better their lives," said Brett Eisenberg, of Bronx Independent Living Services.
The center says it helps 15,000 people each year.
