Many residents in Brookfield still have not recovered from the damage caused by the massive storm that hit last May.
The National Weather Service said the storm had a macroburst with a maximum speed of 110 mph. They said it only lasted about 15 to 20 minutes, but it inflicted plenty of damage.
The town of Brookfield, which was hit the hardest, says 72,000 cubic yards of debris was removed from the roads. The town also says over a dozen homes are still uninhabitable.
First Selectman Steve Dunn says that there are still residents who have trees down on their properties because they can't afford to have them removed. He says that most insurance companies won't cover this type of damage unless the trees were directly touching the residents' homes.
Brookfield says it's still meeting with FEMA on claims to cover the cost of the storm. The town says it hopes to get some of that money later this year.
There are a few barbecues going on this week in Brookfield to thank some of the volunteers and neighbors who got people through the severe storm.
