Brookhaven residents who spoke with News 12 Tuesday morning said they were furious that roads were still covered in a substantial amount of snow.
News 12 received calls from people living on Yosemite Lane in Coram, Arrow Street in Selden, Edgar Avenue in Brookhaven, Piedmont Drive in Port Jefferson, Newman Street in Patchogue, Stephani Avenue in East Patchogue, Cornwallis Road in East Setauket and Franklin Avenue in Selden.
News 12 was informed that Yosemite Lane was plowed just before 10 a.m.
Viewers said road conditions made it impossible to get to work and created dangerous situations for first responders and essential workers. In one instance, an ambulance got stuck off a residential, unplowed road in Coram.
Residents on Stephani Street in East Patchogue say a snowplow came by Tuesday afternoon. Before that, neighbors had to rely on each other for help.
"I came to drop off medication to my niece because she can't get up to go to the pharmacy," says Bellport resident Sonia Molfetto.
People who live on Franklin Avenue in Selden say no plow has come yet.
"I can't get through and I'm losing work, I'm losing pay. I live paycheck to paycheck," says resident Christiana Delucie.
"I have a handicapped mother that can't get down the stairs. If an ambulance was to get here, which is every other month going back and forth to the hospital, she'd be dead," says resident Susan Baggiano.
Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro joined the News 12 morning show live and was asked about unplowed roads. He said a plow passed over every road in town at least once.
"If there are any spots that truly have not been plowed and there's a big difference between not plowed and needs more plowing," he said. "It’s not going to improve response time to tell us that the road wasn't plowed if it just needs more plowing. Tell us, 'we're still six feet from the curb line, can you come back and widen the road?'"
On Newman Street in Patchogue, residents say a snowplow left a wall of snow in the middle of the street. News 12 did see a plow move the snow around 12 p.m.
With another possible storm this week, residents in the Town of Brookhaven are concerned about their roads.
News 12 requested another interview with the Brookhaven Town highway superintendent. News 12 was told they would get back to us.
