Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso says he will vote against the proposed Coney Island casino, calling the plan “deeply unimpressive” and “unresponsive” to community needs.
Reynoso joins a growing list of local leaders voicing opposition to the bid, which has faced months of pushback from residents.
Community members have argued the casino would change the character of Coney Island, while supporters say it would bring jobs and extend activity on the boardwalk beyond the summer season.
The proposal remains in the running for one of three downstate casino licenses after a third Manhattan project, Freedom Plaza, was rejected Tuesday.
Two other Manhattan bids, including one in Times Square, were also denied last week.
That leaves five casino proposals competing for the three licenses.
Mayor Eric Adams voiced his support for a Coney Island casino on Monday's “Ask the Mayor” program, saying casinos bring billions of dollars in economic development and serve as “anchors” for communities.
Community advisory boards must vote on the projects by the end of September.
The state Gaming Commission is expected to award the licenses by the end of the year.
