Firefighters worked to contain a brushfire in Highbridge Park, where clouds of smoke filled the area near West 168th Street and Edgecombe Avenue.
FDNY crews on the scene used ladders to spray water over the fire in an effort to bring it under control.
Video footage from the Citizen app shows thick smoke rising over the neighborhood just off the Harlem River Drive. Emergency crews blocked off the area to manage the situation and keep residents safe.
Earlier this week, the National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for New York City, cautioning that strong winds and dry conditions have created "critical fire weather." These conditions make brush fires like this one more likely to ignite and spread. Several smaller fires have already been reported across the city.
Officials continued to monitor the situation as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and prevent further spread.
