Business owners from across the state were in Hartford Wednesday afternoon to ask state lawmakers to make it more affordable to do business in Connecticut.
This comes as large companies like General Electric threaten to leave the state.
Lawmakers are particularly worried about losing insurance and finance companies, which pay nearly a third of all taxes in Connecticut.
"It's the lower-wage industries that have been driving our recovery right now, and higher-wage industries continue to lose," says Manisha Srivastava, of the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management.
In the SoNo district of Norwalk, many local business owners say Connecticut taxes are getting too expensive for them.
"Every time I turn around, they're adding another tax to something," says Linda Vinci, owner of Braach's Flowers.
The tax panel will continue meeting through at least January.
