Local mom-and-pop shops are asking residents not to do all their shopping on Black Friday and not to do all their shopping at big chain stores.
Stores like Katia boutique in Norwalk want to remind everyone about Small Business Saturday.
Mayor Harry Rilling visited Katia and several other shops earlier this week to draw attention to what they have to offer for holiday shoppers.
An official with the area Small Business Administration says the day is meant to recognize the contributions those shops make to our economy and local community.
