Businesses support Maren Sanchez Home Foundation as 5th anniversary of tragedy nears
Five years after a teenager was stabbed to death at her Milford high school, local businesses are coming together to support the foundation that wears her name.
Four local businesses, including Mellow Monkey in Stratford, have donated part of their proceeds to the Maren Sanchez Home Foundation in honor of International Women's Day.
Maren Sanchez was stabbed to death by a classmate at Milford's Jonathan Law High School in April of 2014.
The foundation's mission is to prevent violence against women and girls. Sanchez's mother, Donna Cimarelli, who founded the organization, says she appreciates the outpouring of support.
Cimarelli and her friend Joan Goldstein are promoting an upcoming fundraiser gala called "A Magical Night in the 70s." They say every effort they launch is somehow blessed in a magical way by Maren.
"We are blessed with the most wonderful people in our lives and we know that Maren is bringing those people towards us," says Goldstein.
The pair is encouraging the public to support Maren's cause by attending their gala. It’s set for April 13 at Vazzano’s Four Seasons in Stratford.
