Neighbors, veterans and community advocates showed a disabled veteran his new home Saturday, which volunteers will refurbish for him at no cost.
U.S. Army Specialist Robert Reyes has been recovering at the Bronx Veterans' Hospital for the last four years. Reyes was paralyzed from the neck down after a 2005 roadside bombing in Iraq. Through donations, community advocates purchased the home below market value and will rebuild it to have handicapped-accessible features.
Developers say Reyes' home should be ready for him by Christmas. They are including a film room so Reyes can enjoy his love of filmmaking.
