Campaign raises awareness for heart disease at Greenwich Hospital
Babies born at Greenwich Hospital during the month of February will be sporting little red knit hats for a good cause.
The hats are part of an American Heart Association campaign aimed at raising awareness for heart disease and congenital heart defects, something that the CDC says affects about 40,000 babies each year.
"As a health care provider, awareness is the most important thing," says Greenwich Hospital's Jeanne Van Sciver. "And campaigns like this make the public aware of heart disease so that it's preventable."
Van Sciver says the hospital tests all babies for heart disease because the sooner its caught, the better.
The American Heart Association says it is working with hospitals across the country to provide resources. It says it wants to empower mothers to live heart-healthy lives and help their kids do the same.
This is the third year Greenwich Hospital is participating in the campaign, and staff members say they plan to continue.
