A Newtown man is facing charges after his car slammed through the backyard fence of a Bridgeport home, police say.
Matthew Carriero, 30, of Newtown, is charged with evading and having minimum insurance.
The incident happened Tuesday afternoon on Robert Street.
Officials say Carriero's car plowed through a fence, took out a playset and ended up crashing into an above-ground pool.
The playset was destroyed, while the pool was damaged and left leaking water.
The homeowner says she, her husband and their 3-year-old daughter were not home at the time of the incident.
A man driving in the area says he was almost struck by Carriero during the incident and that the car took off after going through the backyard.
The man called 911, and police say they stopped Carriero on Reservoir Avenue just a mile away and arrested him.
The woman who lives at the home says she wants the city to do something to prevent another crash.
News 12 reached out to the mayor’s office but has not heard back.
