Carolyn Vermont, the CEO of Habitat For Humanity Coastal Fairfield County. has died.
Vermont passed away while visiting her family in Jamaica.
Along with habitat, Vermont was involved in the NAACP and the West Indian American Association of Greater Bridgeport.
Several politicians paid tribute to Vermont Thursday.
Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim described Vermont as a devoted resident and dedicated advocate for the city and region.
In a statement, Ganim said, "Carolyn served in the Mayor's Office and committed her life to strengthening our community through public service and civic leadership. Her impact was felt across Bridgeport, from supporting young people and prevention efforts to standing with families during difficult times. Bridgeport has lost a true champion. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family."
