Census survey: New Jersey households cutting back on essentials to pay energy bills

Some New Jersey residents have had to reduce or even stop buying necessities to pay for their energy bills.
In the last year, about 34% of New Jersey households cut back on essentials like groceries and medicine to pay their electric and gas bills. That’s according to the U.S. Census Bureau Household Pulse Survey.
About 26% were unable to pay part of their bill.
To save money on their energy bills, many of these households said they kept their homes at temperatures that felt unsafe or unhealthy.
