Hundreds of Bridgeport residents met Saturday at the Mount Avery Baptist Church for an informational meeting about home foreclosures.
The meeting, which the church dubbed a foreclosure ?revival,? was designed by Rev. Carl McCluster to educate parishioners about foreclosure and subprime mortgages. McCluster says he realized church members may not know enough about homes and mortgages before purchasing real estate after one of his congregants came to him for advice about paying her mortgage during the current economic crisis.
McCluster created Homes Saved by Faith, a network that includes 150 Connecticut churches that will offer help and education to residents about home ownership and mortgages. The network has a hotline that residents can call if they are having trouble paying their mortgages, 800-505-6595.
?When the community is down in difficult times, it needs to be revived,? McCluster says. ?There needs to be life pumped into the community.?
