4ds agoThe Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference has delayed the start of winter sports to next January.
The CIAC says rising trends in both COVID-19 case numbers and the amount of schools in or moving to full distance learning are why all winter sports will have to hold off until at least Jan. 19, 2021.
That's when practices are allowed to start - not games.
CIAC Executive Director Glenn Lungarini says Jan. 19 was chosen because it's in line with when most schools in quarantine will reportedly return to some form of in-person learning.
High-risk sports like wrestling may start even later than mid-January.
