A memorial set up to honor a Bronx man who died has been removed from a public park, according to the man's family.
The Merchant family says the city removed the memorial which was located in a remote area of Pelham Bay park. In 2015, Eric Merchant was found dead inside a tent he was staying in at the park due to an exposure to fumes from a heater.
The family says they set up a make-shift memorial in the area where their son had died so that family and friends could come to visit the area to remember Eric.
But they say just before Easter this year they went to visit the memorial and it was gone. They say city officials told them no memorials are allowed inside the park, but the Merchant family argues that the memorial was not bothering anyone.
They say they intend to fight the Parks Department.
