Pop up storms are expected today, but the risk for rain is low and the humidity is also much lower this weekend.

The final weekend of August is shaping up nicely across the region, but there is one more weather hurdle to get through first.

A few showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon as a cold front moves through. Unlike Thursday, when heavy rain and flooding were the primary concerns, Friday’s storms should be much more scattered. Still, an isolated strong storm with gusty winds is possible.

Once the front passes, cooler and drier air moves in tonight, setting the stage for a mostly dry and seasonable weekend.

THIS AFTERNOON: A FEW STORMS

Pop up showers and thunderstorms develop this afternoon across the city as a cold front crosses the area. Coverage should be limited, meaning many locations may stay dry. However, any storm that does develop could produce a burst of heavy rain and gusty winds. An isolated severe storm cannot be ruled out.

Temperatures will be seasonable, with afternoon readings in the low 80s, but it will feel hotter with the humidity. Showers and storms should wind down this evening. It's noticeably less humid later tonight and surprisingly cool after sunset.

SATURDAY: LOW HUMIDITY, SUNNY FOR MANY

Expect mostly sunny skies, comfortable temperatures near seasonal levels and light winds. It looks like a great day across the city, but clouds will likely linger closer to the coast so it's not a perfectly sunny weekend for the beach. However, the rip-current risk is low and winds are generally light which will bring good weather conditions for boaters too.

SUNDAY: ANOTHER NICE DAY

Sunday continues the mostly sunny and seasonable pattern, but clouds will likely build back later in the day. High temperatures are in the low to mid 80s with no impacts to plans expected during most of the day. A stray shower is possible in the evening.

NEXT WEEK: DAILY SHOWERS RETURN

A series of weather disturbances will move through the region, bringing several opportunities for showers and thunderstorms from Monday into the middle of the week. The exact timing of those showers will become clearer over the next few days.

At this time we don't expect a washout every day, but are planning for some wet-weather interruptions. Temperatures will be near 80-degrees with more clouds around than we see this weekend.
