Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton took on the gun lobby today in her first Connecticut campaign stop.
A packed crowd was at the Hartford YMCA this morning to greet the former secretary of state and first lady. Clinton hosted a forum on gun violence.
She appeared on stage with the families of gun violence victims. Erica Smegielski, the daughter of Sandy Hook victim Dawn Hochsprung, said Clinton is the candidate who can bring new gun control laws.
"I'm asking each of you to get involved before you have to learn the hard way," said Smegielski.
Clinton called gun violence an epidemic in the U.S. and vowed to take action to reduce it.
Clinton is pushing for background checks at gun shows. She also supports a lawsuit filed by the families of Newtown victims against the maker of the assault rifle used at Sandy Hook.
Clinton is polling nine percentage points ahead of rival Bernie Sanders.
