A group of religious leaders and community members in Bridgeport says PSEG Power Connecticut hasn't made good on its promise to hire dozens of residents to work on its natural gas power plant.

A document signed by PSEG and the city of Bridgeport says there's a commitment to support local hiring, including of minorities, women and veterans. But community leaders say that's not what has been happening.

Pastor Carl McLuster, with Shiloh Baptist Church, says an apprenticeship program put in place would offer more than 100 jobs, but that the number has been cut in half.

McLuster says 10 people would be hired in five stages, but only eight have been hired as part of Stage 1.

He also says they're not getting paid the $20 per hour they're entitled to.

The mayor's office declined to comment on the situation.

PSEG says it continues to work closely with Bridgeport's elected officials and community leaders to support a variety of programs in the city.
