A Bridgeport community and family members are mourning the loss of a young girl killed in a fire over the weekend.
The flames broke out at the Greentree Condominium Complex early Sunday morning. Killed in the fire was 3-year-old Sincere Pettway, who family members say was full of life and had a contagious smile that could light up a whole room.
Community members gathered at the Ebenezer Gospel Assembly Church Monday evening for a candlelight vigil in Pettway's honor.
Sincere's mother, Shaneese Pettway, is still in the hospital. Family members say she was badly burned trying to rescue the girl, but could not get through the intense smoke and flames. Firefighters say they found the girl within seconds of making their way into the condo, but they were too late.
In total, officials say that five people, including three children, are recovering.
Investigators say that while the exact cause of the fire is not yet known, they believe it may have started in the kitchen.
A fundraiser is underway to help the victim's family.
