A man suspected in the assault of a woman at a West Avenue park was ordered by a judge today to undergo a competency evaluation.
Emanuel Montanez, 24, has been charged with breach of peace, threatening and intimidation based in bigotry.
Police say the victim was badly beaten and received serious head injuries yesterday afternoon.
They say they found Montanez partially clothed and shouting nearby with blood and scratches on his hand. Another woman says Montanez threatened to kill her because she was Puerto Rican.
Montanez?s mother says he suffers from bipolar disease and stopped taking his medication.
Officials say Montanez could face assault charges once the victim of the attack is able to identify him.
