Renovations years in the making at Compo Beach in Westport will be completed in time for Memorial Day, town officials say.
An entirely new roof has been built, painted and renovated, and the pavilion's storage lockers have been repaired and repainted.
By Memorial Day, officials say the doorways to the beach will be opened and the pavilion will be open for public use, complete with picnic tables.
Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Fava says renovations couldn't come at a better time, since the pavilion's old roof had to be removed last year due to structural and safety concerns.
"We were a little disheartened last year when we had to take down the old roof, and I think we've come back bigger and better," Fava says. "I think it's something that Westporters can be proud of."
Officials say a fence separating the locker rooms and bathrooms from the pavilion is the last finishing touch needed on the project.
