Police and hazmat crews had to clean up a hot mess on Sanford Street in Fairfield Monday.
Four drums of Frank?s Hot Sauce fell off a delivery truck on the street, police say. The drums contained 2,000 pounds of the condiment and were being delivered to Archie Moore?s to prepare Super Bowl wing orders.
Hazmat crews were called to ensure the sauce didn?t find its way into the city?s sewers.
?Because of the quantity of it and the hotness of the peppers that?s involved in the oils, if they went down in the storm drain it could be environmentally unsafe,? says Officer Charlie Ricco, of the Fairfield police.
Five hazmat specialists used warm water to wash the sauce to the curb line with a degreaser and then vacuumed up the mixture.
Super Bowl spectators planning to watch the big game at Archie Moore?s need not worry. The restaurant?s manager says more hot sauce is on the way.
