Lawmakers are holding firm in their opposing views of what to do about a state budget. A special budget session started June 3, but the Democratic leaders, Republican leaders and governor still have to find a way to make ends meet.

Democratic House Speaker Chris Donovan and Democratic Senate President Don Williams held their stance of limiting budget cuts and raising taxes. They said if need be, they may run a budget without the governor's support.

House Minority Leader Larry Cafero (R-Norwalk) and Senate Minority Leader John McKinney (R-Fairfield) say they've put proposal after proposal on the table and all have been rejected.

?Five months, super majority party, the people demanding a budget, and they're just now thinking about doing it a different way. That's irresponsible,? Cafero says.

?We're letting the governor know that her cuts are not wise,? says Majority Leader Chris Donovan. ?And we're hoping we can convince her to take those cuts that are unwise off the table and work with us on solving the budget.?

Republicans say the state absolutely needs a budget by then, while Democrats say it's really up to the governor to ensure that happens. The fiscal year ends June 30.
