Connecticut communities celebrate Arbor Day

Communities across the state celebrated the 151st anniversary of Arbor Day with a number of events.
Norwalk marked Arbor Day with a celebration at Rowayton Elementary School. Students read poems and planted a tree. 
There was a tree-seedling giveaway at Westport Town Hall. The seedlings came with planting instructions for school-age children and Westport residents.
An Arbor Day planting ceremony was held in Stratford at the Stratford Greenway between DeLuca Field and Stratford Animal Control.
Arbor Day takes place in the United States on the last Friday in April. It began in 1872 as a way to celebrate the planting, upkeep and preservation of trees.
