Connecticut State Police officially have a new contract, which includes a raise.
The General Assembly Wednesday approved a 2.5% pay hike and a $3,500 bonus.
"This new contract provides financial and other incentives for the retention and recruitment of the best troopers and candidates," said Gov. Ned Lamont.
State police are struggling to recruit new troopers, but some Republicans say it's about more than just money.
"This is a small step to get people, more people, willing to do the job, but we need to make significant policy decisions in this chamber, and soon, so that the officers who come forward are able to do the job," said state Rep. Greg Howard.
Republicans want to repeal parts of the 2020 police accountability law.
Democrats say there's no evidence it's keeping officers from doing their jobs.
