Connecticut Natural Gas and Southern Connecticut Gas warn of scam targeting customer's data

CNG and SCG say a third party was able to illegal gain access to names and billing account information, including balances due, addresses and phone numbers of certain customers. However, they were unable to gain access to banking information, Social Security numbers and credit card information.

Connecticut Natural Gas and Southern Connecticut Gas are warning customers not to respond to unknown calls asking for payments.
The companies say they are aware of a scam where customer's data is being used by scammers.
CNG and SCG say a third party was able to illegal gain access to names and billing account information, including balances due, addresses and phone numbers of certain customers.
However, they were unable to gain access to banking information, Social Security numbers and credit card information.
Customers were targeted via email and phone.
The companies plan to contact customers whose data may have been stolen.
Anyone who has questions regarding their bills should reach out to the utilities directly.
