Gov. Ned Lamont is expected to hold a winter storm news briefing at 6:30 p.m. from the Emergency Operations Center in Hartford.

News 12 Connecticut is told that he is also set to announce that he will partially activate the center to monitor storm conditions throughout the state beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Locally, Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim has declared a snow emergency for the city as of 7 a.m.

Officials are advising residents that during the emergency, parking on snow emergency streets is prohibited.  Residents should park on the side of the street with addresses that are odd numbers.

A parking ban is also effect in Stratford that will remain throughout the duration of the storm.

In Stamford, a winter storm watch is in effect, where snow accumulations in the region could reach between 4 and 6 inches between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Stamford's Office of Public Safety is urging residents to prepare for possible outages.

Travel is expected to be difficult throughout the state during the storm, especially as freezing conditions develop.

Officials are urging Connecticut residents to remain home Saturday night into Sunday morning. Residents are encouraged to remain off the roads if possible.
