Connecticut is reporting its first measles case since 2021.
State health officials said the confirmed case is an unvaccinated Fairfield County child under 10 who recently traveled internationally.
Trumbull officials and the Trumbull Health Department said Thursday that they were informed of
a confirmed case of the disease involving a student at Christian Heritage School.
Town officials say they are working with the school to make sure all proper precautions are being taken to ensure the health and well-being of students, faculty and residents.
In a letter sent to parents, health department officials said a member of the school community with measles was at the school on Dec. 4. Officials also said anyone unvaccinated or undervaccinated children and adults, including those with a medical or other exemption to vaccination, "must be excluded from school through 21 days after their most recent exposure."
The state Department of Public Health commissioner said the single best way to protect children and adults from measles is to be vaccinated.
Parents can schedule a free vaccine appointment for their child by calling the Trumbull Health Department at 203-452-1030.
