Several communities across Connecticut are opening cooling centers Thursday in response to the hot and humid conditions.
The Ferguson Library in Stamford is just one spot where people can head to cool off.
Gov. Ned Lamont also activated the state's hot weather protocols Wednesday and local communities issued advisories with temperatures expected to be near 90.
Mayor Joe Ganim activated the City of Bridgeport's cooling center protocol. There are 15 splash pads throughout the city to provide recreation from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Officials urge people to be aware of signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Heat exhaustion includes dizziness, nausea or weakness. Experts say heat stroke is common in children because their bodies heat up more quickly than adults.
