Stamford police said Tuesday the body of a 2-year-old girl found in a New Jersey river was apparently stolen from a grave in Connecticut.
The girl's body was discovered in a plastic bag at the shoreline of the Passaic River Sunday. Stamford officers say an investigation led authorities to the grave of a 2-year-old buried in 2007. When the grave was exhumed, police found an empty coffin.
Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin says the ground near the grave looked intact and there were no indications the coffin was tampered with recently.
