A Bridgeport man wanted for his girlfriend's murder previously threatened to kill her twice, according to court documents.
Bridgeport police say Glenn Pettway, 28, shot Mita Dumeng, 30, several times in her home on Knoll Place Saturday morning.
"We found her in the bedroom. The evidence suggests that it happened around 4 a.m. We didn't get called there until after 5," said Bridgeport Police Capt. Kevin Gilleran.
Gilleran told News 12 the investigation led straight to Pettway, who had an on-again, off-again relationship with Dumeng. He was already known to police since Pettway is awaiting trial for a 2018 murder.
Police issued a BOLO for Pettway, describing him as 5'7", 150 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and numerous tattoos. They ask the public to call 911 if they spot Pettway or the car he's believed to be in -- a blue 2002 Ford Mustang. It has Connecticut registration BB53311, but Gilleran said Pettway has changed the plates in the past.
"Do not approach the suspect. He's considered armed and dangerous," Gilleran warned.
Pettway was previously charged with the murder of Alfanso Anderson at the Sunny Side Inn in February 2018. Police said Anderson had no connection to Pettway and was mistaken for the intended victim. Pettway was released from custody on $1 million bond.
Then in February, Pettway posted $75,000 bond after he was arrested for three separate incidents in January. Two of them include threatening and harassment charges after complaints made by Dumeng. Court documents show Pettway is accused of telling her she was going to die and that he'd gladly do time in exchange.
Pettway was also previously convicted of robbery and larceny.
As the search for him continues, tributes to Dumeng continue to pour in on social media. Her cousin told News 12 she had such a positive energy that people just wanted to be around her. A memorial for the mother of four remains outside her home with messages of love and grief covering candles and balloons.
Funeral services for Dumeng will be held at Community Funeral Chapels at 798 Park Ave. in Bridgeport. The wake is set for June 6 between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., for immediate family members, and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., open to everyone. The final viewing is June 7 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by the burial at Lakeview Cemetery at 885 Boston Ave.
