Firefighters responded to the scene of a fire in a commercial building in the East Norwalk section of the city.
Workers at the Ludlow Shopping Center, located near East Avenue and Rogers Square, say the flames broke out at around 2:45 p.m. Thursday. Fire officials believe it started in the Speedy Mart convenience store and spread to the roof. The plaza contains a florist, pizzeria and other small shops.
Ludlow Shopping Center sits next to a housing community for the elderly, and behind it is the East Norwalk train station.
The business owners evacuated the center as soon as they smelled smoke. No injuries were reported.
Fire Chief Lawrence Reilly says they were able to stop the fire from spreading to adjacent storefronts. It took about two hours for crews to contain the flames.
Westport and Stamford crews provided the Norwalk Fire Department with aid. There is no word on what caused the fire.
