Rescue crews issued a search Sunday for a Middletown man who went missing after his kayak tipped over near Charles Island.
Officials say Michael Krupa, 22, and a friend took off from Broadway and Fairwood headed towards Charles Island Sunday around midnight. They say the friend swam to an anchored sailboat and called 911 after the kayak capsized. The search for Krupa commenced around 5:00 a.m.
The Coast Guard, Milford, Stratford, and a local Marine unit searched by air and sea in a 25-square-mile area off of Charles Island.
Captain Christopher Zak of Milford Fire Department said the two men were not wearing floatation devices.
