The annual Hey Stamford Food Festival kicked off its six-day run Friday evening at Mill River Park with a pizza extravaganza to start off the weekend-long Food Truck Frenzy.

The Pizza-Palooza event drew crowds vying to taste offerings from 10 different pizza food trucks competing to claim bragging rights for the best slice in town. Restaurants from as far as New Haven, Torrington and even New York City fired up their ovens to vie for supremacy in wood-fired pizza.

Weekend events continue Saturday and Sunday with more than 40 food trucks representing cuisines ranging from barbecue to island fare. Next week’s themes include Taco Tuesday, Lobster-Palooza and a Taylor Swift dance party.

The Hey Stamford Food Festival runs through Aug. 17 at Mill River Park.
